Caleb Williams threw for 308 yards and two touchdowns without an interception as the Chicago Bears edged the New England Patriots 30-24 on Thursday Night Football. The Bears’ quarterback, playing just his second game back from a hamstring injury, completed 22 of 33 passes and added 18 rushing yards, helping Chicago improve to 5-2 this season.
Williams’s performance against New England drew high praise from sports talk show host Colin Cowherd. On Friday’s “Herd with Colin Cowherd,” the commentator said, “Everybody is afraid to say it, I’m not. I think Caleb is the most talented quarterback in this league.” Cowherd’s statement reflects the rapid rise of Williams since he was selected first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The 24-year-old has been consistent this season, completing 71 percent of his passes for 1,020 yards with five touchdowns and a single interception over four games. He has also contributed 128 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. His leadership helped the Bears clinch the NFC North division last season and reach the playoffs, reversing the franchise’s recent struggles.
Williams’s supporting cast contributed significantly to the win on Thursday. Running back D’Andre Swift carried the ball 22 times for 78 yards and scored a touchdown. Wide receiver Luther Burden III recorded four catches for 130 yards and a touchdown, while Colston Loveland added seven receptions for 69 yards and another score.
The Bears’ victory over the Patriots was hard-fought, with Chicago holding on to a six-point lead. The team’s defense and offense aligned to maintain control, demonstrating why the Bears are considered serious contenders in the NFC this year.
Chicago’s next challenge comes on Monday Night Football in Week 8, when they face the Seattle Seahawks on the road. The matchup will test whether Williams and the Bears can sustain their winning form against a tough opponent.
Williams’s ascendancy has captured attention beyond Chicago. His impact on the team and the league has sparked conversations about the MVP race already this season. Whether he maintains this level of play remains to be seen, but the Bears and their fans have reason to be optimistic.
Colin Cowherd’s comments signal growing recognition of Williams’s ability. His combination of passing efficiency and mobility has transformed the Bears’ offense into one of the league’s most dynamic. The quarterback’s progress this season will be closely watched as the NFL season unfolds.
