Former India batter S Meghana retires at 30 after key role in RCB’s 2024 WPL title win

S Meghana has retired from all forms of cricket at the age of 30, ending a career that included a memorable contribution to Royal Challengers Bangalore’s 2024 Women’s Premier League title. The Andhra Pradesh batter announced her decision on Friday via Instagram, expressing gratitude for the experiences and relationships the game gave her.

Meghana’s cricket journey saw her debut in international T20 cricket against the West Indies in Vijayawada in November 2016. She scored 17 runs off 16 balls in that match, which India lost by 31 runs. Her ODI debut came much later, against New Zealand in Queenstown in February 2022. She made a modest start with four runs off 14 balls but found form in the following two ODIs of the series, scoring 49 off 50 balls and then 61 off 41 balls. These three matches remained her only appearances in the ODI format, accumulating a total of 114 runs.

In T20 internationals, Meghana played 17 matches, scoring 258 runs at a strike rate of 102.78. She managed one half-century in T20Is and also recorded a half-century in ODIs during her brief international career.

Meghana’s domestic and franchise cricket career was more extensive. She featured in the Women’s Premier League for three seasons, initially turning out for Gujarat Giants before moving to Royal Challengers Bangalore. She spent two seasons with RCB and was part of the squad that won the WPL title in 2024. Her last appearance in the league came during the 2025 season.

In her retirement post, Meghana reflected on the lessons cricket taught her, writing, “The field has been my second home, teaching me resilience, humility, and giving me memories and friendships that I will carry for a lifetime.” She added that while her playing days are over, she intends to stay connected to the sport by mentoring young players and contributing to cricket in other ways.

Meghana’s announcement marks the end of a career that may not have been long or filled with headline moments on the international stage but left a mark in domestic and franchise cricket circles. Her role in RCB’s 2024 WPL victory remains a highlight, demonstrating her ability to perform under pressure in a competitive environment.

The former India batter’s decision to retire at 30 comes at a time when women’s cricket in India continues to grow rapidly, with the WPL expanding opportunities and visibility for players. Meghana’s plans to support the next generation suggest she will remain involved in the sport beyond her playing days.

No further plans or details about her post-retirement activities have been confirmed.
