Masked intruders broke into Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes’ £4 million Cheshire home during the club’s Champions League trip to Italy, stealing designer jewellery in the process. The burglary occurred around 8.30pm on Wednesday 21 October while Fernandes was on the pitch in Como, where United suffered a 4-1 defeat.
The six-bedroom mansion in Nether Alderley was targeted by three masked men who entered the property and took several items. Fernandes’ family were not present during the incident, and the suspects reportedly spent only about five minutes inside the house before fleeing.
Cheshire Police responded after neighbours spotted three unknown men in the garden of a nearby property and reported the suspicious activity. Officers arrived quickly but found no trace of the intruders. A police spokesperson said: “At around 8.30pm on Wednesday 21 October, police were called to reports of suspicious activity at an address in the Alderley Park area of Nether Alderley. The caller reported three unknown men in the rear garden of a neighbouring property. Officers attended the scene, and on arrival there was no trace of the suspects.”
The police confirmed that a burglary had taken place at the address and that multiple items, including designer jewellery, had been stolen. Detective Inspector David Jarvis said the investigation was in its early stages and that officers were "committed to doing all we can to trace the people responsible." He added that anyone in the local area at the time who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour was encouraged to come forward.
Fernandes was in Italy for the Champions League fixture against Como, playing 67 minutes before being substituted for Joshua Zirkzee in a disappointing night for Manchester United under interim manager Michael Carrick.
The club expressed support for Fernandes and his family, requesting privacy as they deal with the fallout from the burglary.
The incident adds to growing concerns about the security of high-profile footballers’ homes, especially during international and European trips. Police continue their enquiries into the break-in with no arrests made so far.
