Ty Lawson Accused of Shoplifting in Shocking Arrest
Former NBA guard Ty Lawson has been accused of shoplifting a $34 bottle of Tito's vodka while allegedly drunk, leading to his arrest by the Castle Rock Police Department in Colorado.
Lawson, 38, was taken into custody on July 16 after a liquor store worker accused him of theft, and he is now facing one charge of theft of less than $300. He is due in court for a pretrial conference next month.
Lawson took to social media to express his reaction to the incident, claiming he experienced racism during his encounter with the police officers. "I'm not going to lie. Being black in America is tough… Being lied by a pasty face white woman wild… stay outta castle rock Colorado!!!!" Lawson wrote on X.
This is not the first time Lawson has had trouble with the law, as he has been arrested multiple times throughout his basketball career. Drafted 18th overall by the Denver Nuggets in 2009, Lawson played eight full seasons in the NBA and overseas.
Lawson's behavior during his arrest was reportedly disturbing, with the New York Post revealing that he allegedly screamed at police officers with profanity and called one of the officers a "white b—h." However, he eventually apologized before being released.
Lawson's arrest affidavit stated that he "at times" kicked his cell's glass wall and yelled "stop" repeatedly during the pre-booking process.
Lawson's reaction to the incident on social media suggests that he is standing by his claims of racism. However, the incident has sparked controversy and raised questions about Lawson's behavior.
