High school football rankings in Kentucky remain unchanged this week as Highlands prepares for a tough trip to face Scott County in a 4A clash that could influence district standings. The latest statewide media poll, compiled by Jason Frakes of the Louisville Courier-Journal with input from sixteen media members, shows no movement among Northern Kentucky’s six ranked teams heading into Week 10.
Highlands holds the top spot in Class 4A with a 7-2 record and 158 points, while Scott County sits fourth with a 7-2 record and 115 points. This matchup between the No. 1 and No. 4 teams in the division is expected to be one of the decisive games of the penultimate week of the regular season. The outcome could affect which team clinches the district title, though some races may still require a final week to settle.
The 4A poll ranks Boyle County second with a 7-1 record and 142 points, followed by Paducah Tilghman at third with an undefeated 8-0 record and 132 points. Ashland Blazer, also undefeated at 8-0, occupies fourth place with 105 points, just behind Paducah Tilghman. Other teams in the top ten include Corbin, Covington Catholic, North Oldham, Logan County, Spencer County, and Nelson County, which enters the rankings at tenth with a 7-1 record.
While the 4A rankings hold interest for Highlands and Scott County fans, Northern Kentucky’s other ranked teams remain steady. There was no shift among the six NKY teams this week, and this stability is expected to continue as the season winds down. The other major upcoming game in the region is Ryle facing Simon Kenton on October 23.
In Class 6A, Trinity maintains its hold on the top spot with an 8-1 record and 160 points. Frederick Douglass follows closely at second with an undefeated 8-0 record and 142 points. Manual and South Warren round out the top four, with Madison Central sitting fifth. Notably, Lafayette entered the top ten this week at tenth place with a 7-1 record, pushing out Bryan Station, which dropped to ninth.
Class 5A’s top spot is held by Pulaski County, undefeated at 8-0 with 160 points. Woodford County climbed to second place with a 7-1 record and 131 points, passing Scott County, which dropped to fourth despite a 7-2 record and 115 points. Owensboro, Atherton, Cooper, West Jessamine, Madisonville-North Hopkins, Bowling Green, and Collins fill out the rest of the top ten.
Classes 3A, 2A, and 1A also maintain their order from the previous week. Christian Academy leads 3A with a perfect 9-0 record and 160 points, while Beechwood tops 2A at 8-0 and 159 points. Pikeville is the highest-ranked 1A team at 7-1 with 160 points.
Highlands’ trip to Scott County is the most anticipated matchup in the next week’s slate, with both teams looking to solidify their position ahead of the playoffs. The game will test Highlands’ ability to maintain their No. 1 ranking in 4A against a strong Scott County side eager to climb the standings.
As the regular season nears its end, district races across Kentucky remain tightly contested. The rankings suggest a competitive finish with several teams poised to make late-season pushes. For Highlands and Scott County, their Week 10 meeting could shape the narrative for the remainder of the season.
