Kentucky’s 21-13 victory at Oklahoma on Saturday night owed much to the steady performance of its offensive leaders, particularly center Coleton Price. Facing a top-tier defense under Brent Venables, the Wildcats struggled for consistent rhythm on offense but managed enough key plays to secure the road win and improve to 6-1.
Price’s impact was clear in the trenches. The Oklahoma defensive tackle duo of David Stone and Jayden Jackson, both considered dangerous, were largely neutralised. Stone, one of the country’s most talented defensive tackles, was held to a single pressure with no sacks or tackles for loss from either defender. Price and the interior offensive line limited their influence, providing Kentucky’s quarterback and skill players with crucial protection.
Kenny Minchey, Kentucky’s quarterback, delivered a composed performance amid the challenge. He completed 75 percent of his passes and threw two touchdown passes without an interception. His ability to maintain efficiency and avoid negative plays helped the Wildcats sustain drives despite the noisy Oklahoma crowd and difficult environment.
Tight end Willie Rodriguez was the main target in the red zone. He caught both of Kentucky’s offensive touchdowns, the first coming on the opening drive where he ran a flat route from a fullback position. The second touchdown came on a seam route in the red zone on a well-designed five strong swap four vertical play. Minchey’s pass on that play was his best of the night, giving Kentucky the lead in the fourth quarter. Rodriguez finished with five receptions for 38 yards.
Wide receiver Nic Anderson quietly emerged as a significant factor for Kentucky in the second half of the season. Against Oklahoma, he faced boos from the home crowd but responded with one of the most impressive catches of the year, hauling in a 17-yard in-breaking route over the middle. Anderson managed 48 yards on five receptions despite appearing to get dinged up on that play.
Kentucky’s offense had moments of struggle, which was expected given Oklahoma’s defensive reputation. But the contributions from Price, Minchey, Rodriguez, and Anderson provided enough momentum to edge out the Sooners in Norman.
The Wildcats now carry the confidence of a hard-fought road victory as they prepare for upcoming challenges in their season.
