Pueblo athletes including Kiana Bethea and Chris Hildebrand vie for Athlete of the Week award

Pueblo Central High School’s Kiana Bethea and Pueblo County High School’s Chris Hildebrand are among six athletes nominated for this week’s Pueblo Chieftain Athlete of the Week award. The poll closes at noon on Saturday, October 24, and readers have until then to vote.

Bethea made a notable impact on the volleyball court last week, recording 20 kills and three blocks across three victories over Pueblo Centennial, Pueblo East, and Coronado. Her performance helped Pueblo Central’s girls volleyball team maintain their winning form.

Hilbreand shone in boys soccer for Pueblo County, scoring four goals and assisting once in two wins over Sierra and Pueblo South. His contribution was instrumental in the team’s success during a busy week.

Other volleyball nominees include Kaydence Raymond of Pueblo County, who leads her team with 14 blocks and added three kills in two sets last week, and Danae Fransua from Pueblo East, who had four kills and one ace in a win over Sierra while leading her team with 15 blocks. Pueblo West’s Kylee Giconi also received a nod after recording eight kills against Pine Creek; she tops her team with 11 blocks and has accumulated 90 kills so far this season.

In boys soccer, Erion Evans of Pueblo West earned a nomination after scoring two goals during the Cyclones’ 5-0 win over Liberty. Evans has seven goals to his name for the season.

Last week’s winner was Tyler Quintana from Pueblo Central High School’s boys soccer team, who secured 98% of the votes.

The football athletes are competing in a separate poll on the Pueblo Chieftain’s website.

The Athlete of the Week award recognises standout performances from the previous week among Pueblo-area athletes. Readers are encouraged to vote often before the poll closes.
