Goiás Win First Brasileirão Sub-20 B Title in Club History
On Thursday (23), Goiás made history by winning the 2026 Brasileirão Sub-20 B title, securing the championship in a thrilling penalty shootout against Ceará.
The match, played at Estádio Presidente Vargas in Fortaleza (CE), ended 1-1 in regulation time. Hallerrandrio opened the scoring for Goiás in the 10th minute, while Amaral leveled things for Ceará in the 35th minute from a cross by Janderson.
Goiás' strategy of defending and counterattacks paid off, as they relied on quick moves to recover the ball and create scoring opportunities. Ceará dominated the first half, but Goiás remained determined to find the net.
The second half was evenly matched, with both teams giving everything to try to secure the title in regulation time. However, without success. Ceará even found the net through Victor The in the 49th minute, but the referee signaled offside at the start of the move.
The penalty shootout was even more dramatic, with neither team wanting to give up the title. Both teams performed very well from the spot, but in the end, Goiás came out on top, winning 11-10.
Goiás' campaign was one of steady improvement, with the team losing its first two matches in the Brasileirão but then recovering and remaining unbeaten ever since. They recorded five wins, two losses, and three draws, with Esmeraldino scoring 15 goals and conceding eight.
In the group stage, Goiás finished fourth in Group A. In the quarterfinals, they eliminated Atlético-GO with a 1-0 win. In the semifinal, they drew 1-1 with CRB and secured qualification for the final on penalties (4-2).
Goiás will be promoted to Série A, along with Ceará and Atlético-MG, who had a better campaign than fellow semifinalist CRB. The Brasileirão U-20 B grants three promotion spots to Série A.
