Minnesota Twins' Zebby Matthews threw a strong seven innings, allowing six hits and one run, as the team snapped a three-game skid with a 9-6 win over the Athletics on Monday night.
Byron Buxton had a standout game with three hits and four runs scored. Rookie Kaelen Culpepper also shone with four hits in his 14th game, while Ryan Kreidler contributed with a home run.
Zebby Matthews has now won all four of his August starts, striking out seven and giving up only one walk. The right-hander's performance has been a key factor in the Twins' recent resurgence.
Josh Bell drove in three runs, including a crucial 27th double in the first inning. Bell added a run-scoring groundout in the second and a sacrifice fly in the sixth to help the Twins build a 7-1 lead.
However, the Athletics managed to mount a comeback, with Butler scoring an RBI single in the third and White hitting a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Yoendrys Gómez ultimately surrendered a two-run double to Jeff McNeil and back-to-back RBI doubles to Zack Gelof and Lawrence Butler in the ninth before Andrew Morris retired Tommy White on a lineout to first for his fourth save.
The Twins' win marked a turning point in their season, snapping a three-game skid and giving them renewed hope for the playoffs. The team will look to build on this momentum in their next game against the Athletics.
