Wayne Rooney described the World Cup final half-time show as 'crap'.
Wayne Rooney was left less than impressed with FIFA's first ever World Cup final half-time star-studded show. The 13-minute performance, featuring Madonna, Shakira, and Justin Bieber, failed to get the former England captain excited.
The show, held at the MetLife Stadium, also included a medley of other artists, including BTS and Brazil football legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho driving onto the pitch in a buggy. Rooney, a pundit for the BBC, was one of the first to express his disappointment with the show.
To be honest, mine was when it finished, I like a lot of those artists but to be honest I thought it was crap. I did honestly, Rooney said in an interview.
The show's lack of impact was evident in Rooney's words, who admitted that even the artists he liked personally failed to get him going. It just didn't get me going, I wanted the football to be back on. It was a bit flat, he added.
The performance was part of FIFA's efforts to create a more engaging experience for fans during the World Cup. However, it seems that Rooney and many others were left underwhelmed by the show.
Shakira an Burna Boy, Micah Richards, a fellow pundit, highlighted as one of his favorite moments. Joe Hart, another BBC commentator, joked that Ronaldinho and R9 driving out Madonna was the highlight of the show.
The half-time show was a new experiment by FIFA, aiming to bring a more entertaining experience to the World Cup. However, it seems that this year's show fell short of expectations.
FIFA has not commented on the reaction to the show, but it's clear that they will be looking to improve their half-time entertainment for future World Cup events.
