Washington football emerges as heavy favorite for 5-star edge rusher
The Washington Huskies have solidified their standing as the top contender for the commitment of five-star edge rusher Jalanie George, a product of Desert Edge High School in Arizona.
George is ranked as the No. 9 overall player and No. 2 edge rusher in the 2028 class, according to Rivals.
Rivals' Brandon Huffman and Steve Wiltfong both predicted that Jedd Fisch's staff will earn a commitment from George, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound prospect with advanced play speed.
The Huskies have been in a great position with George for a long time, and their unofficial visit with him in March has likely helped their chances.
George has also been vocal about his plans to return to Montlake this fall for a gameday visit, where he'd be flanked by some of his high school teammates, including four-star quarterback Blake Roskopf and three-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney.
Rivals' Charles Power wrote in an evaluation of George's film, "Big EDGE prospect who is the highest-rated prospect at the position early on in the 2028 cycle. Listed at 6-foot-5, 240 pounds with a frame that should pack on more weight."
George collected 16 tackles-for-loss and 6.5 sacks during his sophomore season, showcasing his positional versatility and upside along the defensive front.
The Huskies' ability to recruit elite talent at a tough position would be a major statement to the Big Ten, and could make Fisch's program a yearly contender for the College Football Playoff.
If the Huskies are able to reel in a commitment from George, it would be a significant win for the program, and a testament to the coaching staff's ability to attract top talent.
A commitment from George would likely come in the fall, as he plans to return to Montlake for a gameday visit.
