Wang Junguang aims for knockout in ONE strawweight kickboxing return against champion Prajanchai at Lumpinee Stadium

“Golden Boy” Wang Junguang will return to ONE Championship on October 16 in a strawweight kickboxing main event against reigning ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Champion Prajanchai Pongsuphan PK at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.

Wang’s comeback comes after nearly six years away from the ONE ring. His previous stint ended with a split-decision loss to Aslanbek Zikreev in 2020 and a unanimous decision defeat to Sam-A Gaiyanghadao for the inaugural ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Title in 2019. Since then, Wang has compiled a 30-7 career record and says his mindset has changed. “I’m much more mentally mature than I used to be; I wasn’t there before,” he told onefc.com. He added that this fight is his “last chance” in ONE Championship and that he plans to claim the title and win the gold belt.

Prajanchai, a legend on home turf, has an extensive record of 344 wins and 53 losses, making him one of the sport’s most experienced and decorated fighters. He holds titles in both Muay Thai and kickboxing and is returning after a year away following surgery and a loss to Jonathan Di Bella. Wang admitted he was excited to face Prajanchai because of the challenge the Thai offers. “If I win, more opportunities will open up, and I’ll move one step closer to a title shot,” Wang said.

The matchup pits Wang’s kickboxing experience against Prajanchai’s diverse striking background that blends Muay Thai, boxing, and kickboxing. Wang highlighted Prajanchai’s “excellent technique,” “quick rhythm,” and “strong control,” but also noted that the Thai’s kickboxing experience is relatively limited compared to his own. “My biggest advantage is my kickboxing experience. I’ve fought under kickboxing rules my whole career,” Wang said. Despite nearly three years without a fight in ONE, he is confident he remains at the top level.

Wang has made no secret of his intention to finish the fight decisively. “I’m going all out to knock my opponent out in this fight,” he said. “Fans are probably looking forward to a firefight between us. We will definitely deliver an amazing fight. Prajanchai, I hope you are as ready as I am. And let’s rock.”

The bout will stream exclusively for members via live.onefc.com from Lumpinee Stadium, a venue famed for its Muay Thai heritage. Wang’s return to ONE Championship marks a significant moment for the strawweight kickboxing division, with both fighters coming off lengthy absences and ready to stake their claim.

Wang’s career has been defined by early promise, setbacks, and perseverance. His 2019 debut in ONE ended abruptly with a first-round TKO of Federico Roma, which earned him an immediate title shot. Five rounds against Sam-A followed, but he came up short. Now, with renewed focus and a sharpened approach, Wang sees this fight as a chance to rewrite that narrative.

Prajanchai’s pedigree in Muay Thai and kickboxing is well established, but his absence after surgery and a loss leaves questions about his current form. Wang’s confidence in his kickboxing skill set suggests he believes he can exploit that gap.

With the fight less than two weeks away, both men have something significant to prove. Wang wants to show he remains an elite contender after years away, while Prajanchai aims to reaffirm his status as one of the strawweight division’s best across multiple striking styles.

The latest confirmed detail is that the fight will headline The Inner Circle 35 event on October 16 at Lumpinee Stadium, streamed live for ONE Championship members.
