A former second-round pick out of Penn State, wide receiver KJ Hamler, has been working out for the Las Vegas Raiders, his division-rival AFC West team.
KJ Hamler, a 27-year-old veteran, has been trying to revive his NFL career after spending this spring playing for the UFL's Orlando Storm. The 2020 second-round pick out of Penn State totaled 563 all-purpose yards and scored four touchdowns in seven games for the Storm.
Hamler's stint with the Orlando Storm comes after he was released by the Denver Broncos in 2023 with a non-football illness designation. He was diagnosed with pericarditis, a heart irritation, which forced him to miss a significant number of games during his time with the Broncos.
Pericarditis led to Hamler missing 27 of the Broncos' 50 games from 2020-2022. Despite his efforts to recover, Hamler's time in Denver ultimately came to an end.
The 27-year-old wide receiver has been trying to get back into the NFL fold, working out for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Hamler's decision to work out for the Raiders is not surprising, given the team's need for depth at the wide receiver position. The Raiders have been looking to bolster their receiving corps, and Hamler's experience in the league could be an asset.
Hamler's working out for the Raiders marks the latest development in a string of former Denver Broncos players trying out for other teams.
As the NFL continues to navigate the offseason, it remains to be seen whether Hamler will land a spot with the Raiders or another team.
