The Kansas City Chiefs have opened talks to bring back Tyreek Hill after injuries to two of their main receivers. Rashee Rice suffered a hamstring strain in the second quarter of the Chiefs’ recent win over the Raiders, an injury expected to sideline him for several weeks. Meanwhile, Tyquan Thornton, who had 111 yards and two touchdowns in the 30-27 victory, is out indefinitely following a dislocated ankle that required medical intervention during the game.
The Athletic reports that the Chiefs have reached out to Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, indicating serious interest in reuniting with the 32-year-old wide receiver. Hill was a fixture in Kansas City’s offence from 2016 to 2021, earning Pro Bowl honours in each of those six seasons and securing three All-Pro selections. His impact was significant, including a memorable 44-yard catch on third-and-15 during Super Bowl LIV that helped spark the Chiefs’ comeback win against the San Francisco 49ers.
Hill was traded to Miami in 2022, where he continued to perform at a high level, adding two more All-Pro nods to his record. However, his recent seasons have been marred by injuries. In 2024, he played through a wrist injury, and in 2025, he missed the final 13 games after a severe knee injury involving dislocation and multiple torn ligaments. Hill is currently aiming for a return in November.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce have both expressed support for Hill coming back to Kansas City. Mahomes said, “I have no idea (if that would happen), but it’d be pretty cool.” Kelce added, “That’s out of my hands, but I know I’d love to have ‘The Cheetah’ back in this building. He’s a brother. He’s one of those people who, when he sets his mind to something, he usually delivers. You saw that with Miami, when all the haters were saying he couldn’t play and he went and had his best year. I’d be excited by what he could do (here).”
The Chiefs remain unbeaten at 4-0 as they head into their Week 4 bye. Their next game after the break is against the winless Los Angeles Chargers. With Rice and Thornton sidelined, adding Hill back into the offence could provide a much-needed boost to the team’s receiving options. The situation continues to develop as the Chiefs weigh their options ahead of the next phase of the season.
