Tony Stennett has resigned as Fennville’s Director of Athletics and Recreation, ending his tenure that began earlier this year. Stennett confirmed his departure to The Sentinel, saying he left his alma mater to pursue other opportunities.
The 2009 Fennville graduate took over the athletic director position in 2024. During his brief time in charge, he was involved in several significant coaching appointments, including hires for the baseball and softball programs. His leadership followed a coaching career that included stops at colleges in Texas, Colorado, and Kansas before returning to Fennville.
High School Principal Rick Frens has stepped in as interim athletic director while the school begins the search for Stennett’s replacement. Frens told The Sentinel that the process to find a new permanent director is already underway.
Stennett’s connection to Fennville goes beyond his recent role; as a former multi-sport athlete at the school, he brought firsthand experience as a player to his administrative duties. His departure leaves the athletics department at a transitional point as they look to build on the hires and changes made under his leadership.
The school’s athletic program now faces uncertainty over its direction with Frens handling day-to-day responsibilities on an interim basis. The search for a new director will determine the long-term leadership and vision for both athletics and recreation at Fennville.
