Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar is in position to win the Tour de France for the third consecutive year, edging closer to a historic achievement in the sport.
The second-to-last stage of the 2026 Tour de France saw American cyclist Sepp Kuss experience a harrowing crash, narrowly avoiding a potentially fatal accident. The crash occurred when Kuss made a tight turn, and a protective barrier caught him just in time.
The second crash of the day proved costly for Kuss, who lost the lead and finished third in the stage, 31 seconds behind Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz. Carapaz earned the polka dot jersey for winning the mountain stage.
Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz finished first in Stage 20 of the 2026 Tour de France, earning the polka dot jersey for winning the mountain stage.
Kuss was in the lead when he collided with a wall outside a tunnel, but managed to recover quickly enough to maintain his position. The second crash set him back further, ultimately costing him the stage.
Had Kuss finished first on Saturday, he would have been the first American to win a stage in five years, a feat he achieved in Stage 15 of the 2021 Tour de France.
