The IndyCar series is set to kick off its 2027 season on March 7 at St. Petersburg, marking the 17th time the city has hosted the opening event. The racing series has announced its first eight races of the upcoming season, with a trio of events on consecutive weekends to get the year underway.
The action-packed start to the 2026 season was a clear precursor to the frantic pace that IndyCar is expecting in 2027. "The start to this year's 2026 season was action-packed, and it's gratifying to know the stage is set for a return to that frantic pace in 2027," IndyCar President J. Douglas Boles said.
Phoenix Raceway will host the series on March 13, followed by the streets of Arlington in Texas on March 21. This marks the second consecutive year that IndyCar has started with three consecutive weekend races, and only the fifth time in the series' 118-year history.
The break between the initial trio of events and the next two races at Barber Motorsports Park and Long Beach will give teams and drivers a chance to regroup before the intense racing resumes. "It's been another year of growth with 2026 being 'proof of concept that our sport is fueled by an expanding presence across marquee events and destinations, and we look forward to carrying that momentum into 2027'," Mark Miles, president and chief executive officer of Penske Entertainment, said.
The Indianapolis 500 will take place on May 15 at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with the road course race happening on the same day. The final announced race of the season will be on June 6 at the streets of Detroit.
The IndyCar series has consistently shown its ability to adapt and grow, and the upcoming season is shaping up to be no exception.
