Eagles' Manager Sean Mannion Shakes Up Lineup for Big Win
Philadelphia Eagles' new manager Sean Mannion has made significant changes to the team's lineup, and it's already paying off.
The Eagles' offense has been stagnant in recent seasons, but Mannion's new playbook seems to be addressing the issue. According to Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert, the new scheme focuses on getting more opportunities for players like DeVonta Smith, who was a bright spot in the offense last season.
The changes are part of Mannion's effort to find ways to get the ball to Smith, who recorded 1008 yards and four receiving touchdowns last season. With A.J. Brown having departed the team, Smith is likely to become the Eagles' number one option in their receiving core.
Mannion's approach is centered around giving players like Smith more freedom to make plays. "There's certain things that Smitty does well that we're going to let him do, we're going to find ways to get touches that way," Goedert said in an interview.
The new playbook also aims to increase the pace of play, which could benefit the Eagles' offense. With a faster tempo, the team can exploit defensive weaknesses and create more scoring opportunities.
Mannion's hiring was a significant change for the Eagles, who were looking for a new offensive coordinator after being eliminated in the Wild Card round. The team's front office turned to Mannion, who was part of the Green Bay Packers' quarterback coaching department.
The Eagles will have a chance to showcase their new lineup in the preseason, with their first match coming on August 15 against the Baltimore Ravens.
