Clemson linebacker Sammy Brown optimistic about Tigers’ prospects despite recent setbacks

Clemson linebacker Sammy Brown says the Tigers’ season isn’t defined by their recent losses, insisting the work laid down in the offseason still sets them up for a strong finish. After a 41-13 defeat to Miami left Clemson at 3-2 entering their open date, Brown pointed to the toughness shown in the first five games as a sign of progress.

“I think the toughness that we have displayed in these first five games is a reflection of what we have done through the whole offseason,” Brown said. “What we did in the offseason has set us up to have an exciting rest of the year.”

Brown acknowledged the defense has room for improvement but noted meaningful strides since the season-opening loss to LSU. “And we are not a complete unit, but the improvement that we have made this year is very encouraging,” he said.

Clemson’s upcoming schedule offers a chance to turn that progress into wins. None of their remaining opponents are currently ranked, and the team still aims to reach the ACC championship game, a goal that would require some outside help in addition to winning their conference matchups.

Beating South Carolina and securing a victory in the season finale are also still on the table.

Head coach Dabo Swinney has kept the team focused on these objectives while pushing for fewer mistakes. Brown said, “He has definitely done a great job of encouraging us. He has also challenged us at the same time.”

The Tigers’ next games will test whether the optimism from Brown and Swinney translates into better results on the field.
