Aryna Sabalenka is looking to renergize her season at the Cincinnati Masters 1000 in preparation for a US Open run, despite a lackluster 2026 season so far.

The four-time Grand Slam champion has won only three titles overall this year, with none since Miami in the spring. She came to the Cincinnati tournament after exiting last week in the Toronto fourth round and losing at Wimbledon at the same stage to Naomi Osaka.

Aryna Sabalenka was keeping a brave face on Wednesday as she prepped for her final US Open warm-up in Cincinnati, where the former champion is the top women's seed in the ATP-WTA Masters 1000 event.

The 28-year-old Sabalenka has a 21-7 record in Cincinnati and won the tournament two years ago to lay the ground work for her first US Open trophy a few weeks later.

"I wanted to stay away from tennis for a little bit so I could refresh, restart and be hungry again," Sabalenka said.

She's not alone in her struggles, as many top players have faced similar challenges this year. However, Sabalenka's attitude is a refreshing change from the usual disappointment and frustration that often accompany a poor season.

Aryna Sabalenka's strategy is simple: "Compete, fight and enjoy. I have no fear." She's looking to avoid re-living her recent past and focus on the present.

Like all seeds at the 12-day tournament, Sabalenka has a first-round bye and will open in the second round against either Australian Talia Gibson or a qualifier.

The Cincinnati Masters 1000 has been impacted by heavy rains and storm warnings, which have prevented qualifying from getting underway. The tournament will continue as scheduled, with Sabalenka and other top players vying for a spot in the US Open.

Sabalenka's mindset will be crucial in her quest for a strong finish to the season. With a focus on staying present and doing everything she can now, she's hoping to turn her season around.
