The PGA Tour has confirmed its first tournament in the new Championship Series: the Travelers Championship.
The Travelers Championship, held annually at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, will be part of the elevated series launching in 2028. This is validation of the collective effort by Travelers, the tournament team, fans, and volunteers over the past two decades, according to Andy Bessette, Travelers' executive vice president and chief administrative officer.
The Travelers has been a part of the PGA Tour's schedule every year since 1952, with TPC River Highlands hosting every edition since 1984. Travelers signed on as title sponsor in 2007, replacing Buick, and has backed one of the Tour's $20 million signature events for the past four seasons.
The Championship Series will complement major championships, The Players, reimagined playoff events, and Ryder and Presidents cups. Ten of the 15 title sponsors for the series have reportedly been secured, with each paying a $30 million price tag, according to Sports Business Journal.
PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp announced additional details of the Championship and sub-tier Challenger series ahead of this year's Travelers. The regular Championship events will feature 120-player fields, $20 million purses, and 36-hole cuts.
The PGA Tour is expected to announce more Championship Series events before next month's Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta.
