Phil Foden singled out the Etihad crowd for their influence as Manchester City extended their Premier League winning streak to seven games with a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town.
A record 60,817 fans packed the stadium to witness City’s latest success, with Foden describing the atmosphere as “class” and a driving force behind the team’s performance. “I could feel the presence of the fans, pushing us on in every single way,” he said. “It was a great atmosphere.”
City’s win under manager Enzo Maresca made Premier League history, as Maresca became the first coach to secure seven consecutive league victories from the start of his tenure. The match was notable for the return of City’s academy graduate, who had been sidelined since his red card in mid-September. Maresca made an immediate impact, putting City ahead after 19 minutes.
Ipswich responded quickly, with Daizen Maeda leveling the score before Erling Haaland struck twice to make it 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining. A late penalty from Zian Flemming narrowed the gap, but City held on to claim all three points.
Foden, who opened his Premier League scoring account for the first time since December 2025 during the match, acknowledged the challenge posed by Ipswich and the importance of securing the win regardless of style. “Today was just about getting the job done, no matter how we did it, it was obviously a difficult game,” he said. “It’s just all about getting the three points.”
The midfielder emphasised the squad’s focus on consistent performance. “We try to just stick to our football, take it game by game. We’re still 100% focused on winning football games, and I think that’s how it has to be. The main focus is doing our job, and that’s all we can do.”
Foden also praised the team spirit within the squad, highlighting the willingness of players to support one another. “We’ve got a fantastic group of players that are willing to run for their teammates, and when you’ve got that you can go a long way.”
Scoring again after a lengthy drought lifted Foden’s confidence. “I’ve been needing that goal for a long time! It can only do good now for my confidence,” he said. “My main focus is just about helping the team the best I can, and trying to do my job.”
The win keeps City unbeaten in the Premier League this season and underlines the impact of Maresca’s leadership in his debut campaign. The club now turn their attention to their next fixture, aiming to build on the momentum sustained in front of their largest home crowd to date.
