Mohamed Salah grew up in Nagrig, a village in Egypt’s Nile Delta, and travelled hours each day to train with Al Mokawloon in Cairo. He moved to Basel in 2012, then Chelsea, and rebuilt his career in Italy with Fiorentina and Roma.
Liverpool signed him in 2017, and his first season set a Premier League record for a 38-game season with 32 goals. He went on to win the Champions League in 2019, the Premier League in 2019/20 and 2024/25, and several Golden Boots. He left Anfield as the club’s third-highest goalscorer, with 257 goals in 442 games, and one of the greatest players in its history.
In August 2026, after a difficult final season, Salah joined Trabzonspor in Turkey on a free transfer. He is Egypt’s captain and led them to the 2018 World Cup.
Playing style
Salah is a left-footed forward who usually starts on the right and cuts inside to shoot or create. His movement, pace and finishing made him one of the most prolific attackers in Premier League history, and he also developed into an excellent creator, regularly among the league’s top assist-makers. He is known for his exceptional fitness and durability, rarely missing games through injury over many seasons. His consistency, scoring 20 or more goals season after season, set him apart from almost every forward of his generation.
International career
Salah has been Egypt’s star player and captain. He scored the penalty that sent Egypt to the 2018 World Cup, their first since 1990, and has led them at several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, reaching the final in 2017 and 2021.
Career in numbers
Salah’s senior club career, which began in 2009/10, has so far brought 703 appearances and 341 goals for 7 clubs. His best scoring return came in 2017/18: 44 goals in 52 appearances for Liverpool. His busiest campaign was 2024/25, with 52 appearances. So far in 2026/27 he has 7 goals in 8 appearances for Trabzonspor. The full season-by-season record is in the Stats section of this profile.
