Parkway needed every second of Thursday night to survive Loyola, and even then the Panthers had to convert a two-point try with less than a minute left to escape with a 42-41 non-district win. Braxxton Black scored on a 2-yard run with 41 seconds remaining, and Bryston McCoy found Thad Smith for the two-point conversion to put Parkway ahead for good. The Panthers moved to 1-1 on the season, but only after watching a comfortable halftime lead evaporate.
Loyola had taken the lead with six minutes left when Bryce Restovich scored on a 5-yard run. Restovich finished with 358 passing yards and four touchdowns, but it wasn't enough to hold off Parkway's late surge. McCoy completed 24 of 35 throws for 253 yards and two touchdowns, while Black rushed for 159 yards and two scores. The Flyers dropped to 1-1.
Captain Shreve bounced back from a Week 1 loss in emphatic fashion, rolling past Bastrop 51-6. Gabe Lockett and Jacovon Watson each scored twice for the Gators, who improved to 1-1. Maddox Parrott, Chris Hill and Caleb Law added touchdowns against the Rams, now 0-2.
Haughton stayed perfect with a 50-0 shutout of Southwood. Taylor Weathersby threw four touchdown passes and ran for a fifth as the Bucs improved to 2-0. Case Corkern caught two of those scoring passes. Southwood remains winless at 0-2.
Neville pulled away from Evangel in the second half to win 43-27. Peyton Houston scored twice on the ground and threw touchdown passes to Jayden Hicks and Jakelen Raphiel. The Tigers moved to 1-1, while Evangel dropped to 0-2.
Northwood beat West Ouachita 28-22, though the final score flattered the losers. The Falcons fumbled three times inside the 3-yard-line, turning what could have been a blowout into a tight finish. Coach Austin Brown credited a halftime defensive adjustment for helping his team secure the win. Kolby Turner, Dez Douglass and Justin Dupree, who scored twice, provided the touchdowns for Northwood, now 1-1. West Ouachita fell to 0-2.
North DeSoto improved to 2-0 with a 56-21 road win over Natchitoches Central. Mason Smith completed 26 of 33 passes for 378 yards and five touchdowns. Braylon Moore caught seven passes for 126 yards and a score, while Chris Kennedy added six receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown. Natchitoches Central is 0-2.
Booker T. Washington remained undefeated at 2-0 with a 30-16 win over 5A Benton. The 4A Lions controlled the game against their larger opponent. Layton Brown scored twice, with Devion Stewart, Keysawn McCuller and Kentrell Johnson adding one touchdown each. Benton slipped to 1-1.
Minden edged Homer 28-22 behind a big night from Jaden Johnson, who scored on touchdown runs of 9, 17 and 75 yards. Lucas Owens added a 12-yard scoring run for the Tide, now 2-0. Homer dropped to 0-2 despite Antonio Casey throwing two touchdown passes to Kevin Williams and Ray Castro rushing for a score.
Haynesville got back on track with a 23-7 win over Junction City. Donnie Critton, LaTravious Brooks and Moise Critton scored touchdowns, and Miller Toney added a 30-yard field goal. The Tors improved to 1-1.
Karr, ranked No. 2, had little trouble with Huntington, winning 50-0 at Independence Stadium.
Calvary kept its offense rolling in a 52-12 road win over Bunkie. Adrian Johnson caught two touchdown passes and Zryan Miles rushed for two scores. DeQuinton Thomas, Brady Martinez, Vince Campanella and Pierce Cary also found the end zone for the Cavaliers, who improved to 2-0.
Green Oaks stayed unbeaten at 2-0 with a 44-12 win over North Webster, scoring early and often against the 0-2 visitors.
Thursday's slate carried added weight for coaches in the Shreveport area, who used the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks as a teaching moment for players born after that day. The games themselves provided the evening's drama, with Parkway's last-second escape the closest call of the night.
