The OHSAA girls soccer tournament is fast approaching, with high-stakes matchups shaping up in Region 11’s Northeast 1 district. No. 2 Aurora and No. 12 Field are positioned on opposite sides of the bracket, setting the stage for a potential rematch after an earlier-season thriller where Aurora scored the game-winning goal with about 10 minutes left.
Before that clash can happen, Field is likely to face Louisville, the seventh seed, in the district semifinals. Aurora, meanwhile, will have its own path to navigate, with the possibility of facing No. 4 Roosevelt in a regional semifinal. Roosevelt itself has a challenging route, potentially meeting Howland in the district semifinals and Revere, a longtime powerhouse, in the district title game.
On the small-school front, Division V’s Waterloo has scheduled an intense slate of opponents. The 11th-seeded Vikings could face Crestview, a conference rival, in the sectional finals before taking on Grand Valley, which holds an 11-2 record, in the district semifinals. This early test will reveal whether Waterloo’s tough schedule has prepared them well for postseason play.
The broader tournament landscape includes several local teams across divisions. In Division III, Aurora holds the No. 2 seed, followed by Roosevelt at No. 4, Field at No. 12, and Streetsboro at No. 21. The top five seeds in this division are Bay, Aurora, Gilmour Academy, Roosevelt, and West Geauga. Division IV features Southeast (No. 23), Ravenna (No. 28), and Garfield (No. 30) among local teams, with Niles McKinley, West Branch, Poland Seminary, Chagrin Falls, and Warren JFK rounding out the top five. Division V’s local representatives include Waterloo (No. 11), Rootstown (No. 23), and Crestwood (No. 36), while Chippewa, Columbia, Kirtland, Cuyahoga Heights, and United occupy the top seeds.
Sectional and district matches are scheduled over the coming days. Division V’s Northeast 2 first round will see No. 36 Crestwood travel to No. 3 Kirtland on October 20. The next day, Rootstown (No. 23) faces Bristol (No. 13) in the Division V Northeast 3 sectional final. October 22 features a flurry of sectional finals across divisions, including Rocky River (No. 17) against Field (No. 12) in Division III Northeast 1, and Streetsboro (No. 21) meeting Holy Name (No. 18) in Division III Northeast 3. Roosevelt (No. 4) takes on Ursuline (No. 43) in Division III Northeast 5, while Ravenna (No. 28) faces Tuslaw (No. 13) in Division IV Northeast 2. Southeast (No. 23) meets Cardinal Mooney (No. 11) and Garfield (No. 30) plays Firelands (No. 12) in Division IV Northeast 5.
Aurora’s sectional final is set for October 24, with the winner of Midview (No. 39) and Madison (No. 31) awaiting them. Waterloo could play either Independence (No. 27) or Crestview (No. 18) in the Division V Northeast 1 sectional final on the same day.
Recent tournament history shows consistent performances from local teams. Roosevelt was district runner-up in 2025. Aurora and Southeast reached district runner-up status in 2024. Streetsboro finished as district runner-up in 2023, and Rootstown and Waterloo both achieved that in 2022. Rootstown and Streetsboro were district runners-up in 2021.
