Mississippi State’s quarterback status uncertain ahead of Saturday’s LSU game in Baton Rouge

Mississippi State’s quarterback Kamario Taylor faces uncertainty ahead of Saturday’s game at LSU due to a foot injury that affected his performance in the loss to Alabama on October 3. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that the decision on whether Taylor will play will be made later in the week.

Taylor, who has completed 102 of 154 passes for 1,450 yards with 17 touchdowns and four interceptions this season, has also rushed for 159 yards and one touchdown. His presence could be even more critical as Mississippi State’s leading running back, Fluff Bothwell, is also dealing with injuries.

If Taylor is unable to start, freshman Parker Puckett is expected to take over at quarterback. Puckett has seen limited action this season, completing eight of 14 passes for 89 yards, including time against Alabama where he replaced Taylor, and earlier against ULM.

Mississippi State, ranked 16th, will visit 22nd-ranked LSU in Baton Rouge with kickoff scheduled for 12 pm ET. LSU is coming off a 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky, a game in which Lane Kiffin’s team was favored but failed to secure the win.

The Bulldogs had a bye week following their defeat to Alabama. Taylor’s injury status remains the major question mark as the team prepares to face a ranked LSU side looking to rebound from their recent setback.

No official update on Taylor’s availability has been announced at this time. The decision on his participation is expected later this week.
