Kerry Pfeil, manager of Martella's Pharmacy, has announced that right-handed pitcher Coy Martino will join the team's All American Amateur Baseball Association Tournament roster. This move comes after Martino's impressive performance against Martella's Pharmacy earlier this summer.
In a June 18 contest, Martino tossed a complete game, striking out nine and walking one batter in seven innings. He threw 104 pitches, including 66 strikes, and had good velocity and was effective with his placements.
Martino's addition is a significant one for Martella's Pharmacy, as the team looks to make a strong showing in the AAABA Tournament. As a Mount Aloysius College product, Martino has experience playing at the collegiate level and has shown his skills on the mound.
As a freshman at Mount Aloysius, Martino appeared in 39 games with 38 starts, batting .254 with eight doubles and two homers. On the mound, he threw 11 innings, striking out 12 and walking 10.
Martino's performance this summer has been impressive, with 34 1/3 innings pitched for The Hill Group. He struck out 57 and walked 25, posting a 2.22 earned run average to share the Pete Vuckovich Award with Mason Pfeil of Martella's Pharmacy.
Martella's Pharmacy will play the afternoon games at Sargent's Stadium at the Point throughout the AAABA Tournament, while Mainline Pharmacy will play the night games. The tournament begins on Monday.
