Kyle Manzardo's 13th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh inning, sealed the Guardians' 6-1 win over the Reds, claiming the season series and the coveted "Ohio Cup."
The Guardians had been shut out in three of their previous four games, but Joey Cantillo's four scoreless innings and eight strikeouts helped turn the tide. Cantillo also leads the majors with a .189 opponents' average with runners in scoring position, and he worked out of several jams throughout the game.
The Guardians loaded the bases twice, but it was Travis Bazzana's single that drove in the first run off Reds starter Brady Singer. Singer issued two bases-loaded walks, forcing in two more runs, before being replaced by Caleb Ferguson.
Singer's night was marred by two errors, including a fielding error by Elly De La Cruz that began the four-run fifth. Erik Sabrowski earned the win for Cleveland, while Singer took the loss, his fifth of the season.
Noelvi Marte drove in the Reds' only run with a single off Franco Aleman in the sixth. Manzardo's home run, his second in as many games, came off Chase Petty and made the score 5-1.
Manzardo's fourth homer against the Reds this season solidified the Guardians' lead. The team's 6-1 win earns them the "Ohio Cup" for this year's season series.
Up next, the Guardians will face the visiting Diamondbacks on Friday, with Tanner Bibee scheduled to start. The Reds will host the Pirates on Thursday, with Rhett Lowder set to take the mound.
