Sevilla manager Luis Garcia Plaza hails Barcelona as Spain’s top team after 7 straight La Liga wins

Sevilla manager Luis Garcia Plaza has declared Barcelona the best team in Spain after their unbeaten run of seven straight wins in La Liga. Speaking to El Larguero, Garcia Plaza pointed to Barcelona’s hunger as a defining feature of their early-season form.

“Barça, as of today, is the best team in Spain… They are very hungry,” he said.

Barcelona’s start to the 2026/27 season has been explosive. The Catalan side has won all seven of their league matches, scoring 31 goals and boasting a +24 goal difference. Their attacking prowess has set them apart, with the team opening a six-point gap over Real Madrid, who sit second, while Atletico Madrid and Real Betis trail even further behind.

Sevilla faced Barcelona at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan earlier this season and suffered a 3-1 defeat. Garcia Plaza credited Barcelona’s attacking quality as decisive in that match, where the Brazilian forward, who had already scored 14 goals across all competitions by that point, showcased his finishing skills.

“When a team spends time with the same coach, it picks up the automatisms very well,” Garcia Plaza added, acknowledging the role manager Hansi Flick has played in the team’s consistency and style.

Barcelona’s dominance has been clear in their offensive statistics, but the team’s cohesion under Flick stands out. The manager has spent enough time working with the squad to embed his philosophy and tactics, which Garcia Plaza believes helps explain their current form.

The Sevilla boss also commented on Rodri’s recent move back to Spain, joining Barcelona from Manchester City. Though he joked about Rodri not choosing Sevilla, he welcomed the midfielder’s return to Spanish football. “Rodri? I know he wasn’t coming to Sevilla, but the good thing is that he’s in Spain,” Garcia Plaza said.

Barcelona’s run of victories and their status at the top of the table come with expectations to maintain their form as the season progresses. Meanwhile, Sevilla continue to monitor their rivals while seeking to challenge for higher positions themselves.
