SUNY Oneonta has appointed Megan LaMont as its new head softball coach.
The hiring was announced on Friday, Aug. 14, with Athletic Director Ryan Hooper praising LaMont's experience and passion for the sport. "Megan has a wealth of experience and success that she brings with her," Hooper said. "She has a deep passion for the sport and a commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the field."
LaMont joins Oneonta after serving as an assistant coach at SUNY Cortland from 2023 to 2026. During her time at Cortland, she assisted with various aspects of the program.
LaMont's background in physical education and her connection to the SUNYAC conference will likely be valuable assets in her new role. She earned her bachelor's degree in physical education from SUNY Cortland in December 2023 and is pursuing a master's degree in Recreation Management and Leisure Services.
The appointment of LaMont marks a new chapter for the SUNY Oneonta softball program. The team is likely to benefit from her experience and commitment to developing student-athletes.
LaMont expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to become the next head coach at SUNY Oneonta. "I'm incredibly thankful for the opportunity to become the next head coach at SUNY Oneonta," she said. "This is a special opportunity, and I'm excited to get to know our student-athletes, build a strong team culture, and help them grow both on and off the field."
LaMont's focus on developing student-athletes both on and off the field suggests a commitment to the well-being of her players. This approach may help the team achieve success not only in competition but also in their academic and personal lives.
LaMont's new role begins immediately, and she will be responsible for leading the softball program at SUNY Oneonta. Her experience and passion for the sport make her a strong candidate to lead the team to success.
