Klay Thompson Expected to Land with Heat After Mavericks Buyout

Thompson is expected to sign with the Miami Heat after clearing waivers following a buyout with the Dallas Mavericks.

Thompson will join forces with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo in South Beach under Erik Spoelstra. This move will provide the Heat with some much-needed shooting and floor spacing, especially with their new-look frontcourt.

The 12-year NBA veteran spent the first 11 seasons of his career in the Bay Area with the Golden State Warriors, winning four championships and being named to five All-Star teams. He then joined Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in the Lone Star State with the Mavericks.

However, Doncic was shockingly traded to the Lakers, while Irving dealt with an injury, and Dallas began a rebuild around young star Cooper Flagg. Thompson averaged 12.9 points on 40.3% shooting from the field to go along with 2.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game during his two seasons with the Mavericks.

Thompson also shot 38.7% from deep on 7.7 attempts from beyond the arc per contest in Dallas. This move to the Heat marks the third organization of Thompson's career, and he will look to contribute to a rotation with one of the best new frontcourts in the Eastern Conference.

The Heat's roster now boasts a talented trio of Thompson, Antetokounmpo, and Adebayo, who will look to make a push in the competitive Eastern Conference. The team's new-look lineup will be a key factor in their success this season.

After clearing waivers following the buyout, Thompson is expected to sign with the Heat. This move will provide the team with a much-needed shooting threat and add depth to their rotation.
