Liverpool have been handed a perfect opportunity to strengthen their defence by signing Jules Kounde, with Barcelona reportedly open to selling the French centre-back after signing Aymeric Laporte.
A deal for Kounde could be on the cards for Liverpool, who are in need of a defensive upgrade after the exits of Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate. Despite the arrival of Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni, who can attempt to plug Konate's gap, it still doesn't feel like they'll be enough to cover the void left by the departures of Robertson and Konate.
Barcelona's financial problems have not deterred them from making new signings, with the arrival of Anthony Gordon being the latest example. However, the La Liga champions are now on the hunt for a new centre-back, with Laporte's signing potentially paving the way for Kounde's exit.
Journalist Carlos Monfort has reported that Barcelona have already contacted Kounde's entourage and there will be new conversations this week. The player sees it favourably, with a clause under £15 million and a low cost. This could be an ideal opportunity for Liverpool, who have a limited budget, to strengthen their defence.
Liverpool's defence has been a major concern for the club, with Virgil van Dijk's contract expiring in June 2027. The uncertainty surrounding his future has left a void in the team, and Kounde's versatility as a centre-back or right-back would be massively useful to the Reds.
If Barcelona are indeed willing to sell Kounde, it would be a major coup for Liverpool, who have been linked with the Frenchman in the past. The deal is still in its infancy, and there are many moving parts that need to be ironed out before a deal is agreed upon.
