Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith still has unfinished business with Miami (FL) after the Hurricanes ended his sophomore season in the quarterfinal Cotton Bowl of the College Football Playoff.
At Big Ten Media Days on Wednesday, Smith was asked which team he would want to get revenge on more this upcoming season. Indiana or Miami? "It's gotta be the hometown team," Smith said on the Cover 3 Podcast. "Miami. Gotta be. I heard it a lot every time I went back home. Got to be Miami."
Smith's comments come after a rollercoaster 2025 season for the Buckeyes, which ended abruptly with losses to Indiana in the Big Ten Championship and Miami in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. Despite entering December as the No. 1 team in the country and 12-0, Ohio State's season was cut short.
The high expectations for Smith entering his expected final year of college are well-deserved. As a freshman, he won the national title, and his performance in the two games against Indiana and Miami last season was impressive, with 15 receptions for 301 yards and a touchdown.
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is hoping to learn from the losses and lean on another experienced team in 2026. "You take a lot of things (from those losses)," Day said on Wednesday. "Every year you look at the things that have gone well, then you look at the things that came up short. I think when you're chasing small margins like you are, you have to identify the things that need to get fixed and fix them."
The Buckeyes will have the chance to face both Indiana and Miami this season, with the rematch against Indiana scheduled for Oct. 17 in Bloomington. Ohio State would have to face Miami in the College Football Playoff to exact their revenge.
