Jason Witten Returns to Texas High School as Unprecedented Honoree

Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas has permanently renamed its gridiron "Witten Family Field" in a ceremony held this week, honoring the legendary Dallas Cowboys tight end and his family's impact on the school's football program.

Jason Witten, a former head football coach at Liberty Christian, served the school for five seasons beginning in 2021, amassing a 44-7 record in that time and claiming back-to-back state titles in 2023 and 2024.

Witten's family has a long history with the school, with his oldest son CJ attending Liberty and currently playing for Rice University, and his son Cooper, a four-star senior linebacker, committed to the University of Oklahoma next fall.

The renaming honor is not just for the impact the Witten family has had on the school's football program, but also for their role in strengthening the Warrior community as a whole.

“Jason, Michelle, and the entire Witten family embraced a vision that helped strengthen not only Liberty football, but the Warrior community as a whole," school officials said in a social media post. “Through [the Witten family’s] leadership, generosity, relationships and love for Liberty, they helped make Friday nights a gathering place for students, families, alumni and friends – a place where Warrior spirit came alive. Thank you, Witten family, for the many ways you have invested in Liberty Christian School and for the lasting legacy your family has helped create.”

Witten was in attendance for the festivities Friday night ahead of the Warriors' 2026 opener against Midland Christian, alongside his wife Michelle, daughters Landry and Hadley, and son Cooper.

The Liberty Christian Warriors fell to Midland Christian, 66-63, under their new head coach, despite Witten's presence at the game.

The dedication of Witten Family Field marks the latest addition to the list of places where Jason Witten's name will live forever, including the Cowboys Ring of Honor, multiple mentions in the Cowboys franchise and National Football League record books, and his college jersey still being a top seller at the University of Tennessee.

Witten's legacy will continue to grow this season as the University of Oklahoma's tight ends coach, but for now, he and his family will be remembered as an integral part of the Liberty Christian School community.
