BCCI forms new selection panels led by ex-India seamer Harvinder Singh for Bihar’s Ranji and junior teams

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed a new three-member selection committee led by former India seamer Harvinder Singh to pick Bihar’s squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season starting October 11. Alongside Harvinder Singh, the panel includes ex-first-class cricketers Sridharan Sharath from Tamil Nadu and Amitabh Vijayvargiya from Madhya Pradesh.

Harvinder Singh and Sridharan Sharath have previously served as senior national selectors. Sharath also held the position of junior chief selector, bringing experience that the BCCI hopes will benefit Bihar’s cricketing ambitions as the team competes in the Elite Group.

For Bihar’s junior teams across the Under-16, Under-19, and Under-23 age groups, the BCCI has formed a separate selection committee. This group features ex-national junior selector Harvinder Singh Sodhi, former Punjab allrounder Krishan Mohan, and former Gujarat wicketkeeper Pathik Patel. According to a source monitoring the process, all selectors arrived in Patna and began scouting local talent at the Moin-Ul-Haq Stadium.

The appointments come shortly after the Supreme Court designated former Patna High Court judge Justice Ashwani Kumar Singh as the administrator of the Bihar Cricket Association on September 16. This move follows ongoing governance issues within the BCA.

Last season, the BCCI appointed a four-member committee for Bihar’s age-group teams. That panel included former India chief selector Chetan Sharma, Harvinder Singh, ex-India pacer Salil Ankola, and former India women’s team left-arm spinner and national chief selector Neetu David.

Bihar, having been promoted to the Elite Group, will open their Ranji Trophy campaign against Uttar Pradesh in Rajgir. Their fixtures in Elite Group A also include matches against Baroda, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Jammu & Kashmir, Vidarbha, and Puducherry.

The new selection panels have already begun their work in Patna, aiming to identify and assemble squads capable of competing in the domestic season’s demanding tournaments.
