Florida State transfer forward Chauncey Wiggins has committed to Gonzaga, according to On3's Joe Tipton.
A Colorado judge's order has paved the way for Wiggins to potentially return to college basketball, declaring the Class of 2022 eligible for the 2026 season pending an NCAA appeal. This development has significant implications for Wiggins, who hit the open market in April after one season at FSU.
Wiggins appeared in 32 games for Florida State last season, including 30 starts. He averaged a career-high 13.3 points while adding 3.9 rebounds per game.
The judge's order came after the NCAA announced the implementation of its 5-year, age-based eligibility rule. Under the new guidelines, athletes will have a five-year eligibility clock beginning with their 19th birthday or when they enroll in college, whichever occurs sooner.
Judge Charlotte Sweeney's ruling was for the entire Class of 2022, but she later clarified her ruling, stating the transfer rules would not be enjoined. This means those athletes could not enter the portal.
The NCAA is appealing the ruling and hoping for a stay of the injunction. The governing body also issued a clarification stating any athlete who signed a pro contract will not be eligible under the terms of the judge's order.
Wiggins played the 2026 season at FSU after transferring from Clemson. He took on a starting role in 2024-25 at Clemson, starting 26 out of 34 games played. That season, Wiggins averaged 8.3 points and 2.9 rebounds.
The ruling is not necessarily final, and the NCAA will continue to fight it. The outcome of this case will have significant implications for college athletes and their eligibility.
