Florian Grillitsch undergoes surgery and will miss around four weeks for Frosinone

Florian Grillitsch will be sidelined for around four weeks after undergoing surgery for a sports hernia. The Austria international, who recently joined Frosinone from SC Braga in August, had the procedure in Vienna and is expected to miss several upcoming fixtures.

Grillitsch’s injury was initially thought to be a flexor problem, but further tests revealed the extent of the damage required surgical intervention. The hernioplasty was conducted using the TAPP technique by Dr Herwig Pokorny at Franziskus Spital Margareten. Frosinone confirmed the midfielder will start rehabilitation in the coming days.

The 28-year-old has made two appearances for Frosinone so far this season, one in Serie A and one in the Coppa Italia. His absence will leave a gap in the club’s midfield as they navigate the early stages of their campaign.

Before moving to Italy, Grillitsch had spells with Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, Ajax in the Netherlands, and Real Valladolid in Spain. His experience across multiple European leagues has been an asset for Frosinone since his arrival.

The club’s statement did not specify the exact date of his return but pointed to a recovery period of approximately four weeks. This timeline suggests Grillitsch could be back towards the end of October or early November, depending on his rehabilitation progress.

Frosinone face a busy schedule in Serie A and will need to adjust their midfield options during Grillitsch’s absence. The Austria international’s injury comes shortly after his move, limiting his chance to establish himself in the team.

No further updates on his condition or return date have been released by Frosinone or the medical team at this stage.
