Dillon Brooks faces misdemeanor DUI charge months after Scottsdale arrest, arraignment set for October

Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks has been charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor for driving under the influence, months after his arrest in Scottsdale on March 6. Court records obtained by ESPN confirm the charge, with Brooks scheduled for arraignment on October 28.

The arrest took place in the early hours following a Suns home loss, though Brooks did not participate in that game due to a broken hand. Body camera footage acquired by TMZ revealed that a police officer noted the smell of marijuana in Brooks’ vehicle during the traffic stop. This DUI charge comes alongside a separate misdemeanor reckless driving and speeding case linked to Brooks from January, with a court date set for November 9.

Suns senior vice president of communications Stacey Mitch provided a brief statement to ESPN, saying, "This charge stems from the incident last March. We have addressed the matter with Dillon and have no further comment."

Brooks, 30, was traded to Phoenix in the deal that sent Kevin Durant to Houston ahead of last season. He posted a career-high average of 20.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game with the Suns, shooting better than 43% from the field, excluding only his rookie season. However, his season was limited to 56 games after fracturing his left hand in February.

In August, Brooks agreed to a three-year, $73 million extension with Phoenix. The new contract came as he approached the final year of a previous four-year deal signed with the Memphis Grizzlies. This extension keeps him with the Suns through the foreseeable future as the team looks to improve after being swept in the first round of last season’s playoffs.

Phoenix opens the 2026-27 NBA season against the Portland Trail Blazers on October 21. Meanwhile, Brooks’ legal proceedings are set to continue with his DUI arraignment later that month and the separate reckless driving case in early November.
