The Detroit Lions added two new faces to their roster on Monday, signing rookie running back Roydell Williams and defensive back Jason Taylor II.
Williams, a 24-year-old running back, went undrafted out of Florida State before signing with the Indianapolis Colts. However, he was waived by the Colts just five days ago.
Williams' collegiate career was marked by injuries, with the running back playing in just 10 games over his two seasons in Tallahassee, Fla. Despite this, he still managed to carry the ball 41 times for 99 yards and two scores.
In contrast, Williams' best collegiate production came during his time at Alabama, where he ran for 560 yards and five scores on 111 carries during the 2023 season.
Meanwhile, Taylor began his career as a seventh-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has also spent time in the Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs' organizations.
Taylor has appeared in eight career NFL games, all of which came during his rookie campaign in 2023 with the Rams. The 6-foot, 204-pound defensive back played college football at Oklahoma State, registering 175 career tackles, 11 passes defended, eight interceptions and 2.5 sacks.
The Lions' roster shake-up also saw the team place running back Raheem Blackshear and wide receiver Cedrick Wilson on Reserve/Injured.
The signings of Williams and Taylor come as the Lions prepare for the upcoming NFL season. With the additions of these two new players, the team will be looking to strengthen their roster and make a push for the playoffs.
