Christian Reeves' injury recovery timeline remains unchanged as the fifth-year center looks to make up ground for a starting job on the Kansas basketball team.
Kansas coach Bill Self outlined a non-contact work schedule for Reeves until early-to-mid October. This comes after Reeves played last season with an injured shoulder at Charleston.
The Jayhawks will need significant production from their front court, as they replace the departed Flory Bidunga, a former All-Big 12 Conference first team selection and defensive player of the year.
Meanwhile, junior center Paul Mbiya returns from last season's team, but will need to take a significant step forward.
The KU roster might be finished, but it isn't set quite yet. Coach Self is open to the idea of adding another big man to the roster.
“Should (Reeves) be ready by season, full speed? Absolutely,” Self said. “When he’ll be live, full contact? I don’t know … if that’s early October or middle October or whenever it’ll be, depending on if he doesn’t have any setbacks. But when he comes back, we’re hopeful he’s five-on-zero full speed. Just no contact. So, he won’t be behind in what we’re trying to put in or anything like that.”
There are three exhibition games set for Kansas, all at home: Pittsburg State on Oct. 16, Louisville on Oct. 21, and Duke on Oct. 25. These games will provide valuable opportunities to see what KU's front court situation looks like.
The Kansas basketball team will be looking to make up ground in the front court, and Christian Reeves' injury recovery will play a significant role in that process.
Kansas basketball's Christian Reeves makes steady progress in his injury recovery, but it remains to be seen when he will be ready for full contact.
