Arkansas coach Ryan Silverfield confident WR Chris Marshall will play vs Missouri after leg injury

Arkansas coach Ryan Silverfield said wide receiver Chris Marshall is expected to be ready for the Razorbacks’ game against Missouri after missing part of last weekend’s match with a leg injury.

Marshall left the Vanderbilt game in the second quarter following a right leg injury that forced him off the field after a 28-yard screen pass catch. The Boise State transfer had been working with an Arkansas trainer during breaks before eventually exiting. Silverfield offered a brief update Wednesday, saying, “(Marshall’s) doing well. Yeah, we have every thought and faith that he’ll be ready to go for the Missouri game.”

Marshall has been one of the most productive receivers in the country this season. His 633 receiving yards rank 11th nationally, and his 43 catches are 17th-best. Within the Southeastern Conference, only Missouri’s Cayden Lee has more receiving yards.

Without Marshall on the field, sophomore Antonio Jordan stepped up for the Razorbacks. The in-state player set career highs with five catches for 74 yards against Vanderbilt. Arkansas will look to both receivers as they prepare for their next SEC contest.

Alongside the update on Marshall, Silverfield announced a change at punter. Jesse Ehrlich will take over as the starting punter, replacing Gavin Rush, who has struggled recently. Rush’s punt average dropped sharply after being hit in the loss to Texas A&M, and he was benched during the second half against Vanderbilt. He currently ranks 69th out of 76 punters with an average of 40.5 yards per punt.

Ehrlich, a Cal Poly transfer from Australia, averaged 46.5 yards on two punts against Vanderbilt, including one touchback and one pin inside the 20-yard line. Silverfield’s decision reflects a desire to improve field position as Arkansas moves deeper into the conference schedule.

The Razorbacks face Missouri next, a matchup that will test Arkansas’s offense without any long-term setbacks to their top receiver. Silverfield’s confidence in Marshall’s return offers a boost heading into the weekend.
