The Carolina Panthers worked out nine players on Tuesday, bringing in a mix of tight ends, linebackers, and cornerbacks for evaluation. Among them were tight ends Devin Culp, Rivaldo Fairweather, and Joshua Simon; linebackers Cade Denhoff and Dasan McCullough; and cornerbacks Jalen Kimber, Kobee Minor, Ambry Thomas, and Marco Wilson.
The Panthers decided to add cornerback Marco Wilson to their practice squad following the workouts. Wilson, 27, hails from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and played college football at the University of Florida. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.
Wilson appeared in 43 games for Arizona, starting 37 of them. During that time, he recorded 158 combined tackles, three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, and forced three fumbles. After his stint with the Cardinals, Wilson spent time with the New England Patriots, the Cincinnati Bengals, and most recently, the Miami Dolphins.
The Panthers’ interest in Wilson suggests they are looking to add depth and experience to their secondary. Signing him to the practice squad allows the team to evaluate his potential fit within their defensive scheme while maintaining roster flexibility.
The workouts on Tuesday offered the Panthers a chance to assess a range of talents across different positions. Alongside Wilson, the trio of tight ends and the two linebackers each received a look ahead of the upcoming season or potential future roster moves.
The team’s official transaction report confirmed Wilson’s signing to the practice squad but did not provide further details on the other players who participated in the workouts.
