Bayern Munich plan to sell defender Hiroki Ito in the upcoming January transfer window, according to Kicker. The 27-year-old has featured for only 10 minutes in one appearance this season, prompting the club to consider offloading him.
Ito joined Bayern from VfB Stuttgart in 2024 for a reported €23.5 million but has struggled to secure playing time under the current setup. If Bayern fail to find a suitable offer during the winter window, the defender could remain at the club until the summer, when his contract enters its final year.
The situation is similar for fellow defender Sacha Boey. The French right-back, who arrived from Galatasaray for €30 million in January 2024, was also on Bayern’s list to be sold during the summer window. However, the club was unable to find a buyer. Boey still has two years left on his contract.
Bayern’s defensive reshuffle comes amid limited opportunities for both players, raising questions about their future at the club. Ito’s minimal minutes this season contrast sharply with the significant investment Bayern made to secure his services earlier this year.
Boey, despite a higher transfer fee, has also failed to make a convincing impact. His presence on the squad has been overshadowed by other options in the right-back position, leading to Bayern’s renewed interest in moving him on.
The winter window offers Bayern a chance to adjust their squad and recoup some of their investments in these defenders. Whether suitable offers materialize for Ito or Boey remains uncertain, but Bayern’s intent to sell is clear.
As of now, there have been no official statements from the club confirming negotiations or interest from other teams. The January transfer window will be decisive for both players’ futures at Bayern Munich.
