Arsenal have splashed out a reported £10 million to sign Greek forward Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge.
The 21-year-old striker joins the Gunners on a ‘long-term’ deal after two highly-successful seasons in Belgium. During his time with Club Brugge, Tzolis scored 21 goals and made 14 assists in 56 games in his first year, before bettering that with 22 goals and 29 assists in 52 games last season.
Tzolis’ impressive form has caught the eye of Arsenal, who have now secured his signature. The Greek international becomes the club’s third summer signing, following the permanent transfer of Piero Hincapié and Illan Meslier.
Arsenal’s move for Tzolis suggests the club is looking to strengthen its attacking options ahead of the new season. The Gunners have been linked with several other signings, but Tzolis’ arrival is a significant boost to their forward line.
Tzolis has expressed his excitement about joining the club, praising the ‘big’ reputation of Arsenal. “It’s absolutely amazing to sign for such a big club, the champions of England,” he said. “I’m very proud to be part of this team for the next season.”
Tzolis has already begun settling into life at the club, having had a positive conversation with manager Mikel Arteta. “I had a nice conversation [with Mikel Arteta]. It was around an hour. We talked about everything, about the club, about myself, about his plans, about me of course, about the team. It was only positive things,” Tzolis said.
Arsenal’s signing of Tzolis is a significant coup for the club, and suggests they are willing to invest in their squad to compete for major honors.
