Anthony Rizzo Blasts MLB Competitive Balance Claims
Former MLB star and Netflix baseball commentator Anthony Rizzo contradicted a key management talking point in ongoing labor negotiations between owners and players. Rizzo said the league is "the most competitive it's ever been," despite the presence of the two-time defending champion Dodgers.
Rizzo pointed to heightened competitive balance across the league, citing the success of low-budget teams like the Rays, White Sox, and Guardians. "What the Dodgers are doing is amazing and they keep on keeping on, which is great. It's good for them, it's good for their franchise, but every team can do it, honestly," he said.

Rizzo's comments come as the labor negotiations heat up. "There's a lot of noise right now. There's a lot of 'he said, she said,'" he said. "I think the game's in a great spot, and it would be a shame next year if we did go into an extended strike or lockout."
As a retired player, Rizzo has been vocal about his views on the game. He will be part of Netflix's announcing crew for the Field of Dreams game next week in Iowa. Rizzo has also been involved in the growing world of sports gambling, with the Yankees recently partnering with prediction market Polymarket.
Rizzo's comments on competitive balance have sparked debate. While some may see the Dodgers' success as a reason for concern, Rizzo believes it's a sign of the league's overall competitiveness. "It is what it is. You go to a game and you want to bet on a game, you bet on a game," he said.
