Amad Diallo has returned to first-team training at Manchester United’s Carrington base this week, providing manager Michael Carrick with an important tactical option ahead of their Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on October 10. The Ivorian winger’s presence in training comes as United prepare to face a Spurs side yet to register a win this season.
Diallo’s comeback was confirmed by a source close to the club via UtdDistrict, who described the player’s return to the pitch as a “vital tactical boost” for Carrick. The 24-year-old has not played this season after suffering an ankle injury during pre-season, but his recovery has progressed enough to see him involved with the senior squad as they train in a reduced group during the international break.
Journalist Samuel Luckhurst reported on Tuesday that Manchester United are hopeful Diallo will be available for selection in the upcoming fixture at Old Trafford against Tottenham. This would mark his first appearance since the injury, moving him closer to match fitness after a frustrating start to the campaign.
Diallo came into the current season on the back of a strong World Cup showing for Ivory Coast, where he scored twice in four matches. Despite that international form, his club performances last season were less productive. Over 32 league appearances in 2025/2026, including 27 starts, he managed only two goals and four assists. His contribution noticeably dried up towards the end of the season, with a run of 16 games without a goal or assist.
The winger faces competition to secure a regular starting spot if he returns to action, with Carrick’s squad options tightening as the team push through a demanding fixture list. After hosting Tottenham, United will travel to Madrid for their second Champions League group match against Atletico Madrid on October 13. Diego Simeone’s side sit second in La Liga, presenting a stern test for the visitors.
Diallo’s return to training offers the Red Devils an additional attacking outlet as they seek to improve their form in both domestic and European competitions. The club has yet to announce whether he will be included in the matchday squad for the Spurs game, but his involvement in training is a clear sign that he is nearing a return.
