Kylian Mbappé passes Lionel Messi for career World Cup scoring record with 22 goals

Kylian Mbappé has made history in the World Cup, surpassing Lionel Messi's career scoring record with 22 goals. The French forward achieved this feat by scoring twice in the third-place match against England on Saturday.

Mbappé's incredible performance in this World Cup has seen him score 10 goals so far, two more than Messi in the race for the Golden Boot.

The match against England did not start well for France, with the team trailing 4-0. However, Mbappé's first goal in the 48th minute, where he flicked a shot past goalkeeper Dean Henderson, marked the beginning of a French comeback.

Mbappé's second goal in the 66th minute, a left-footed strike from about 14 yards, not only pulled France within 4-3 but also cemented his place in World Cup history by passing Messi's career mark of 21 goals.

Mbappé's success in the World Cup is not new, as he won the Golden Boot four years ago in Qatar with eight goals. France ultimately lost to Messi and Argentina in a penalty shootout in the final.

The third-place match, although offering little more than moral victories, could still see Mbappé win his second Golden Boot award. England's key players, Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, were not in the starting lineup and did not enter at the start of the second half.

France's loss to Spain in the semifinals meant they missed out on a chance to play in their third straight World Cup final. Despite this, Mbappé's record-breaking performance will be a significant highlight of the tournament.

As the World Cup nears its conclusion, Mbappé's achievement serves as a reminder of his exceptional skill and dedication to the sport. His record may be broken in the future, but for now, he stands as the top career scorer in World Cup history.
