Colston Loveland and Kyle Pitts rated as holds for fantasy football Week 3

Colston Loveland and Kyle Pitts have emerged as major disappointments in fantasy football after the first two weeks of the NFL season, despite tight end being one of the deeper positions than expected. Both players have struggled to produce points, leaving managers debating whether to hold or drop them ahead of Week 3.

Kyle Pitts has scored just 2.5 PPR Fantasy points so far, a result largely tied to the quarterback instability in his Atlanta Falcons offense. Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix both missed the first two games, forcing Cooper Rush and Jack Strand to start. Those two quarterbacks combined for only 288 passing yards and one touchdown over that span. Pitts saw limited opportunities, as running back Bijan Robinson took the bulk of targets in Week 1, and turnovers dominated Week 2, including a pick-six thrown by Strand on his first NFL pass. Despite the poor production, fantasy analysts recommend holding onto Pitts because Penix is expected to return this week. The hope is that with an NFL-caliber quarterback back under center, Pitts’ role and output will improve.

Loveland’s situation is even more concerning. He has managed only one catch for three yards across two games and looks set to face a third-string quarterback in Week 3. The Chicago Bears tight end does not rank among the top 20 tight ends this week in fantasy projections. Still, he is running routes on nearly 80 percent of the Bears’ pass attempts, and game tape shows he is still getting open. His youth and evident talent make dropping him a risky move, even if fantasy managers should prefer waiver wire options as starters this week.

The tight end position, meanwhile, has seen an unusual depth this season. At least 12 tight ends are averaging 11 or more PPR points per game, a surprising development given preseason expectations. However, about half of those performing well were not drafted as starters in August, meaning that some highly drafted options have failed to meet expectations. Loveland and Pitts stand out as the biggest busts among tight ends after two weeks.

Fantasy analysts have updated their full Week 3 projections for every position, with tight end numbers refreshed throughout the week. Managers are advised to check those projections before setting lineups, as player roles and quarterback situations evolve rapidly.

Loveland faces the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3, a tough matchup for a struggling Bears offense. Pitts will benefit from Penix’s anticipated return but still faces uncertainty as the Falcons offense adjusts. Both players remain holds rather than drops, but fantasy managers should look elsewhere for starting tight ends this week.
