The Upper Cape Regional High girls volleyball team opened their season with a 3-1 record, marking their best start since 2015. Junior Daishalys Nunes led the way in their 3-0 win over Norfolk Aggie, delivering 13 service points that included 11 aces, alongside five kills.

The match ended 25-19, 25-20, 25-10 in favor of the Rams. Junior Emma Yarnell contributed nine service points and maintained a perfect 5-for-5 on serve receive. Sophomore Brooklyn Kutil added eight service points and six kills, going 5-for-8 on serve receive as well. Senior Sophia Lopes provided 17 assists and two kills, while senior Abigail Drew chipped in with 11 service points.

This start represents the Rams’ strongest opening to a volleyball season in eight years, a notable improvement given their recent campaigns. Their performance against Norfolk Aggie showed a balance of offensive firepower and defensive reliability, with the serving game standing out as a decisive factor.

Elsewhere in Upper Cape sports, the boys soccer team won 5-0 against Tri-County, with goalie Sam Reynolds securing a clean sheet. Tommy Kirk and Charlie Fernandes were key contributors, scoring two and three goals respectively. Upper Cape’s boys cross country team lost to South Shore Tech but saw Sam Fischer finish third overall.

The girls cross country team earned a 15-50 win over South Shore, led by Maggie Connolly’s personal-best time of 25:45. Elizae Tillman and Madi Johnson also scored for the Rams, with Penelope Heaslip recording her first-ever points in a meet.

On the boys golf course, West Bridgewater edged Bourne 244-250 despite a low score of 34 from Ronan Kelly. The Navigators of Sturgis West defeated Rising Tide 218-241, with solid rounds from Alex Saunders and Cooper Stephens among others.

The Rams’ volleyball success comes amid a mixed bag of results in girls soccer, where they have yet to claim a win with a 0-3-1 record after a 6-0 loss to Tri-County.

Adam Kurkjian, who covers girls volleyball for the Cape Cod Times, noted the significance of Upper Cape’s start after their win on Tuesday. The team’s combination of aggressive serving and consistent play may be key in maintaining their momentum through the season.
