But with pinch runner Eli White at first base in the ninth inning, Seigler drove a ball into right field. White raced home and Seigler reached third with his first triple of the season.
The Red Sox offense had struggled to take advantage of its opportunities, finishing 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position and stranding 10 runners. But Seigler ensured those missed chances would not decide the game.
Mickey Gasper quietly had one of Boston's best offensive performances, reaching base four times with two hits and two walks. Jarren Duran added two hits and scored the Red Sox's first run.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with the Marlins taking the lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Otto Lopez. The Red Sox answered in the fifth, with Jarren Duran opening the inning with a double before Mickey Gasper drove him home with a double to center field.

Boston's pitching staff escaped trouble, with Ranger Suárez allowing one run over five innings and Erik Miller handling a scoreless eighth. Aroldis Chapman closed the door in the ninth, securing the victory.
The victory extended Boston's winning streak to four games and improved its record to 72-59. The Red Sox will attempt to secure their fifth consecutive victory Tuesday in the second game of the series.
